The Firstdraft Emerging Artist Studio Program

The Firstdraft Emerging Artist Studio Program was initiated in 2004 with funding from the New South Wales Ministry for the Arts, allowing Firstdraft to make the studio on the ground floor of Firstdraft available to emerging artists as a studio space. Throughout 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 the program has been supported by the Australia Council for the Arts.
This studio program has been developed to increase the breadth of Firstdraft’s involvement with and support for emerging experimental arts in Australia. The program provides emerging artists with the opportunity to develop their practice and exhibit within a dynamic artistic community in central Sydney.
Firstdraft studio artists undertake a 10-week residency at Firstdraft’s Woolloomooloo studio complex, the Firstdraft Depot. Firstdraft studio artists are encouraged to utilise the time frame to create and exhibit work not normally encouraged by the short time frames available for installing work. The program provides an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with access to a community of peers, encouraging artists to become more involved in an Artist Run Initiative (ARI).

The Firstdraft Emerging Artist Studio Program is assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body.
Firstdraft Depot is a new studio complex in the heart of Woolloomooloo offering affordable studios to emerging and experimental artists, along with a diverse calendar of activities for artists and communities. Firstdraft Depot is supported by City of Sydney.
