Originally created as a graphite drawing on paper (30 x 20 cm), Tom Polo and the artists involved in the BIG FAG have printed 30 editions of Polo’s gestural line drawing People/Personas on an offset-lithographic proofing press known as the BIG FAG.
People/Personas represents Tom’s renewed focus on on small scale portraits. Tom says of the print: ‘there’s real oddity to the faces – or what becomes a suggested face - in the composition of various shapes that takes form. My work has always extended itself in varying degrees of portraiture so I wanted to continue this with the Firstdraft print.” People/Persona typifies Tom Polo’s playful and inquisitive style, and central to the work is a focus on the gesture in the line which translates beautifully into print.
Tom had his first solo exhibition, An Excessive Aesthetic, at Firstdraft Gallery in 2007. In the five years since, Tom has exhibited in numerous group exhibitions and projects at Gallery 9 Campbelltown Arts Centre, Perth Institute of Contemporary Art, Utopian Slumps, TCB Art Inc, Grantpirrie, was a finalist in the 2011 Helen Lempriere Travelling Art Scholarship (Artspace, Sydney) and is the recent recipient of the Art and Australia/Credit Suisse Contemporary Art Award. Tom’s artist career is on an upward trajectory, and is in some ways representative of the evolution of an emerging artist in Sydney. It is fitting that he circuitously returns to Firstdraft, 5 years on, to share his work in the form of the Firstdraft Print Edition.

Firstdraft is willing to deliver works to Ace Frames, Rose Bay for framing – for standard framing options. Framing to be confirmed directly with Ace Frames, Rose Bay. Separate payment made to framer and to arrange collection privately.
