Firstdraft accepts proposals for its Exhibition, Emerging Artist Studio Residency, Emerging Curators Programs and Emerging Arts Writers Programs.
Firstdraft is a non-profit gallery run on a voluntary basis by a group of practicing artists. It is one of the longest running and most successful artist-run initiatives in Australia. Firstdraft asserts the importance of contemporary art production, dissemination and discussion in society, providing a stimulating exhibition space that is professional and accessible for a diverse range of artistic practices and projects. Alongside its exhibition program, Firstdraft runs a variety of other programs and projects and has recently launched a second venue, Firstdraft Depot.
- Exhibition proposals are invited from individuals and groups, artists and curators for exhibitions showcasing emerging, experimental and innovative practices
- Firstdraft does not charge any commission on works sold during the exhibition
- Gallery rental fees include all promotional, opening and gallery-running costs
- A fully subsidised three-week exhibition in the whole gallery (including promotion and opening costs)
- Access to and assistance with Firstdraft’s equipment and resources
- Funding and assistance for the production of a small catalogue to accompany the show and towards curatorial costs
Emerging Artists Studio Residency Program:
- A studio space at Firstdraftâs new off-site studio complex, the Firstdraft Depot in Riley Street, Woolloomooloo, for ten weeks
- A fully subsidised three-week exhibition at Firstdraft upon completion of the program
- A flat artist fee for work completed as part of the program
- Firstdraft encourages proposals from artists working across interdisciplinary, new media and collaborative practices for its Studio Program
