‘Experimental’ Curators Program 2012

In its second year, this program offers curators a platform for curatorial experimentation and the opportunity to coordinate a weeklong exhibition in the Firstdraft gallery or at an off-site venue. This program is focused on experimental and non-traditional approaches to curating. Firstdraft invites applicants to rethink the concept of ‘gallery’ with the intention of involving or attracting new groups within Sydney’s creative communities, including non-arts audiences.
• Provide exhibition space and funding for a publication that accompanies the creative project.
• Encourage creative dialogue and discussion through public artist and curator talks.
Firstdraft will provide the successful applicants with:
· Access to Firstdraft Gallery for one week OR supported access to a negotiated off-site venue
· Access to and assistance with Firstdraft’s equipment and resources
· A budget of up to $1500
Eligibility
· For the purposes of this application you must consider yourself to be ‘emerging’
· Firstdraft will consider applications from any individual meeting these selection criteria regardless of race, ethnicity, sexuality or gender
· Proposals from local and interstate applicants are encouraged
· Applications from collaborating artists are welcome, but due to the nature of the program will receive no extra allowances
